Goals Scarce in England’s Top Flight

England’s top division has suffered a severe goal shortage this season, with 12 0-0 draws and 34 1-0 wins already.

This is in stark contrast to some leagues around Europe, where goals are being scored at a far faster pace.

In Holland, for instance, fans have been treated to an average of 3.16 goals per game, which works out as more than one extra goal per game compared to the English top-flight.

League Goals/game 0-0 Draws 0-0 %
Eredivisie 3.16 6 5%
Bundesliga 2.75 8 6%
SPL 2.57 7 7%
Serie A 2.52 14 11%
Primera Liga 2.46 13 11%
SuperLiga (Portugal) 2.43 4 5%
Ligue One 2.35 14 9%
Premiership 2.14 12 9%

In Germany there is some talk this season of teams playing more defensively yet the league still averages almost 2.8 goals per game, while even supposedly defensive Serie A manages more than 2.5 goals per game.

Perhaps a close look at the UNDER 2.5 GOALS bet is in order.

Canbet drops American players

We have received notice that Canbet Sportsbook will be closing their doors to USA based players at the end of the month.

As from November 30th 2006, players that reside in the USA will no longer be able to gain access to place sports and casino bets at Canbet. Canbet Poker remains unavailable to USA players.

The blocking of players from the USA is a result of Canbet’s response to the recent Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006.

Canbet customers not resident in the USA can continue to enjoy the full range of Canbet products, including North American Sports.

For those of you who may be looking for a new bookmaker may we suggest the website and the one page bookie shootout that contains short summaries and country restrictions.

US Bettors Welcome at Mansion Exchange

US based Sports bettors have been given a boost by the news that Sportsbook Mansion will remain in the US market for it’s Betting Exchange.

Mansion, which is owned by an Asian billionaire, will no longer be allowing US bettors into its sportsbook … but instead will allow them to play at the Mansion Exchange.

The company, who are registered in Gibraltar, argue that because betting exchanges do not feature a bookmaker but rather individuals trading against one another (similar to the stock market), that exchanges are perfectly legal under the new US law.

Southend dumped Carling Cup holders Manchester United out of the competition at the fourth-round stage with a stunning victory at Roots Hall.

Manager Alex Ferguson included Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up as the Red Devils looked to book a quarter-final place for the third time in four years, and the Red Devils line-up contained 10 full internationals.

Southend hero Freddy Eastwood had no regrets about sending Manchester United, the club he supports, crashing out of the Carling Cup.

It was a quality curling 27th-minute free-kick from Eastwood to grab the lead and then ManYoo could find no way to break Southend’s stern resistance.

United laid siege to the Southend goal for the final 20 minutes but too often Rooney and Ronaldo tried to force a way through on their own and the Shrimpers were able to keep them at bay.

At the final whistle the capacity crowd, who have not seen their team record a league win since mid-August celebrated wildly.

Ah .. the magic of the cup eh?

Choosing your first bookie

One of the contributors to the site is the Gooner from the gambling portal and he’s posted a good thread on his blog about choosing your first sports betting book.

There are hundreds of betting websites out there – but as with all things you have to be selective – and only a small precentage really deliver good value odds and safe betting to the customer.

He discusses some basic things to consider, and then suggests a few good starting places – based on your geographical location – and overall we pretty much agree with his assesment.
