The Final Word “whistles and boos cannot delete history”

Here’s the latest footballing comment from Paddy Power (of Paddy Power bookmakers)

Porto v Chelsea – The Final Word
“This week we have two finals — Porto is like a final and Arsenal is really a final.” So that’s just the one final then, José? Returning to Porto to take on his old side, again, may be getting to the Chelsea manager. It’s screwing with ability for simple arithmetic anyway. Expect to see him adopt a new 5-3-4-1 formation. Despite the confusion Mourinho is putting on a defiant front, claiming that those who boo him simply “don’t understand why a professional wants to come to a new reality” and has his very own sticks and stones rebuttal – “whistles and boos cannot delete history.” Will he have Mour to say come the final whistle?

Porto 11/4  (3.75)
Draw 11/5  (3.20)
Chelsea Evens  (2.00)

Roma v Lyon – Love Me Ten-der
It’s all well and good to praise your opponents ahead of a big match but when it comes at the expense of a team-mate, you have to wonder if it’s worth the hassle. Juninho of Lyon has paid tribute to the Roma captain saying “Francesco Totti is a great player, I think he is the best number 10”, which seems a bit disrespectful to Lyon’s own number 10, Florent Malouda, himself quite a useful player. Rumours that Malouda was later seen sobbing on a sofa watching Bridget Jones’ Diary and eating Hagen Das have yet to be confirmed. Will the French side be able to curtail Totti’s Roman for long enough to have a chance of qualifying for the 1/4 Finals? Wed 7.45pm SSX

Roma 11/8  (2.37)
Draw 21/10 (3.10)
Lyon 2/1  (3.00)

Inter Milan v Valencia – A Model Professional
Valencia will be without Edu through injury when they take on 2006/07 Serie A winners, Inter Milan (it’s not official but it’s only a matter of time). But there is a difference of opinion as to why this is. Whilst munching on a lunch that consisted of a peanut and a stick of celery, Edu speculated “I am not a doctor, but I am almost certain that this injury was due to me being too thin.” Los Ches coach, Paco De Miguel had a less funny but equally supermodelly reason for the injury saying, “the problem is the way that he walks and his posture than anything else.” Inter may be favourites, but they certainly won’t walk it against the Spanish side! 7.45pm SSX

Inter Milan 4/5 (1.80)
Draw 9/4  (3.25)
Valencia 7/2  (4.50)

Premiership Coupon – Too Late For First Aidy
Hope is a wonderful and inspiring thing that pushes people to achieve the unachievable. False hope is just embarassing though. Like those poor unfortunate, tone-deaf souls on X-Factor. “My mom says I’m a great singer.” Sorry love but being tuneless and delusional is hereditary. Anyway to the point in hand, winning his first away game of the season has instilled that same false hope in Aidy Boothroyd. “The whole team is buzzing” he insists, (Watford Bees buzzing? Even we’re not that corny..generally) “and it is going to be exciting right until the death.” Sorry Aidy but your season was dead and buried long ago.

Watford 7/5  (2.40)
Draw 11/5  (3.20)
Wigan Athletic 9/5  (2.80)
