Sam Allardyce resigns as Bolton Manager

April 29th, 2007

Sam AllardyceSam Allardyce has ended his eight-year reign as manager of Bolton after resigning with immediate effect.

Allardyce has been linked with several domestic jobs recently including possible management roles at Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Manchester City although no news has been forthcoming on this front … yet

Bolton Chairman Phil Gartside said “His reasons are private, we respect that” although Gartside said he had known about Allardyce’s intentions for the past fortnight, when the subject came up as part of planning discussions for next season.

Gartside explained that “It became clear that he wanted some time with his family and to reflect on his life” ….

So all this seems to make it unlikely that Allardyce would simply be walking into a comparable job at another club … but if that’s the case then why leave now and not at the end of the season?

There’s more to this story than “spending time with the family” … and we will be keeping an eye on it.
