Man City’s Unbeaten Home Record to Be Tested by Gunners

Manchester City have survived 12 games at their Eastlands Stadium this season without being beaten. That run includes the visit of Liverpool and rivals Man Utd, neither of whom managed to score. Arsenal will provide another severe test of City’s resolve when they visit on Saturday. Though their unbeaten home record remains intact, the Laser Blues’ form has dropped of late, drawing the last three at the City of Manchester, and failing to beat bottom club Derby on Wednesday night. That blip has coincided with a dip in form of key playmaker Elano, who has suffered from minor injury, and becoming a marked man.

This is the kind of high profile game that the Brazilian should relish, up against the likes of Cesc Fabregas, one of Europe’s best attacking midfielders. Similar to Elano, Fabregas has had a quiet start to 2008, but did get on the score-sheet Tuesday night against Newcastle, signally a return to form. The Gunners have gone eight Premiership games unbeaten and Emmanuel Adebayor is on fire scoring six goals in as many games. However, bettors should bear in mind that Arsenal lost this fixture 1-0 last season. PinnacleSports.com make Arsenal marginal favourites 1.893 (-0.5) with 2.040 (+0.5).

Spurs Need to Reverse FA Cup Form With Man Utd

As the first Premiership fixtures of February approach, the table is becoming increasingly stretched, with a massive forty-nine points separating the teams at the top and bottom. January transfer activity is complete so teams must stand or fall with their revised squads, but its look like being a three horse-race for the title, and a blanket finish for relegation, with almost half the table in potential jeopardy.

Spurs Need to Reverse FA Cup Form With Manchester United

Tottenham entertain Manchester United at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon, looking to reverse the form of the recent FA Cup meeting at Old Trafford. The Red Devils ran out comfortable 3-1 winners, despite going behind to an early Robbie Keane goal. It was United’s ninth win in their last ten games, and continued their dominance over the Londoners. Spurs last beat Man Utd in 2001, a run of 14 games, but they did recently end an equally long jinx held by their neighbours, Arsenal, showing records are there to be broken.

Spurs’ coach, Juande Ramos, has had his first opportunity to mould his own squad in the January transfer window. The Spaniard has clearly focused on problems in defensive areas, signing Alan Hutton and Jonathan Woodgate to help plug the worse home defence in the Premiership (joint with Fulham). Woody made an immediate impact with a man-of-the-match performance in the 0-0 midweek draw at Everton. The home crowd will hope for a continuation of recent home form, AS Tottenham have won four straight at the Lane scoring 15 goals. PinnacleSports.com price Man Utd 1.926 (-0.5) with Spurs 2.000 (+0.5) – a market priced to less than 102%.

Portsmouth May Suffer Without African Stars

Harry Redknapp takes his Portsmouth side to Old Trafford on Wednesday night without some of his biggest starts who are in action at the African Nations Cup. Sulley Muntari scored a stunning goal for Ghana in the opening game, where Kanu, John Utaka and Papa Bouba Diop are also in action, seriously weakening Pompey. Things seem to have settled down since Redknapp turned down a lucrative deal from Newcastle, and ‘Arry will certainly have to focus on the job, visiting the Theatre of Dreams. He may however, have Milan Baros available to help with a lack of strike-power, having secured a loan deal from Lyon.

Portsmouth have an enviable away record, with only Chelsea winning more games on the road this season, but United have dropped just two points at home in a dozen games, and have conceded just three times. A full strength Portsmouth side would have stood more of a chance, but there must be doubts in the circumstances. The Red Devils have no exposure to the tournament in Ghana, and should be at almost full strength, with Paul Scholes making a welcome return to action in Sunday’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Spurs. PinnacleSports.com price Man Utd 2.070 (-1.5 & -2)* with Portsmouth 1.862 (+1.5 & 2)*.

Fifth Round FA Cup Draw: Manchester Utd vs Arsenal

Arsenals Arsene Wenger - photo courtesy of Bodog SportsSo there you have it the FA Cup’s 5th Round draw was made about 30 minutes ago at Soho Square, with Ray Wilkins (ex Manchester United) and Jimmy Case (ex Liverpool) playing puppet masters!

The juicy news isn’t really that there are only six Premier League teams in the running, or that for the first time in 50 years there hasn’t been a replay in the 4th round – but that Manchester United and Arsenal will go head to head in what will be a home draw for Manchester United. Nice work boys! The last time they met Man Utd went 2-0 down at Old Trafford in 2003.

Others playing at home include Chelsea who face League One Huddersfield Town. The last times these two got it on was a Third Round 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge two years ago. There’s nothing like a grudge match for the Town Terriers to sharpen their teeth on! So we’re talking small fry trying to batter the big cod, maybe Bristol Rovers tie against Southampton will be the one – after all they haven’t conceded a single goal in their last two FA Cup outings!

Today’s draw does guarantee that at least three teams from outside the Premier League will line make it to the quarter finals. The 5th Round proper kicks off on February 16th so keep your eyes peeled. Here’s how the final draw looks.

1 Bristol Rovers v Southampton

2 Cardiff City v Wolverhampton Wanderers

3 Sheffield United v Middlesbrough

4 Liverpool v Barnsley

5 Manchester United v Arsenal

6 Preston North End v Portsmouth

7 Coventry City v West Bromwich Albion

8 Chelsea v Huddersfield

Serie A Betting Previews for January 26 and 27

Though we haven’t even reached the halfway stage in Italy’s Serie A, Inter Milan are long odds-on favourites to retain the Scudetto. Roberto Mancini’s side are seven points clear of Roma, and yet to be beaten. If a one-sided title race is something of a turn-off, at least Asian Handicaps can keep bettors interested. Check out PinnacleSports.com leaders in the field, offering up to 60% better Serie A betting odds.

Inter Still Refusing to Be Beaten

Showing the traits of true champions, Inter Milan seemingly never know when they are beaten. Last weekend the Nerazzurri came closest to losing their unbeaten Serie A record, trailing Parma 2-1 at home until the 88th minute. Step up their leading goal-scorer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with two goals in two minutes, and the score was turned on its head – admittedly with more than a little help from the referee. They stuttered again in midweek drawing their midweek Coppa Italia game at the San Siro drawing with Juve 2-2, though many big names were rested. Inter will need to be at full strength and maximum focus visiting Udinese this Sunday.

The Little Zebras have lost just once in their last nine home games, but that was last weekend against Milan’s other Serie A side. Looking to consolidate a top five position, Udinese would consider avoiding defeat against Inter a great result, and they have managed a drew in each of the last four meetings. The current champions have been boosted by the return of captain, Patrick Viera, after several months on the sidelines, though he may take some time to get back to his best. PinnacleSports.com make Inter Milan favourites 1.820 (-0.5)* with Udinese 2.120 (+0.5)*.

Roma Trying to Keep Pressure on Runaway Leaders

Going into the weekend of Serie A fixtures, Roma remain seven points behind leaders Inter Milan, having played the same number of games. It may seem unthinkable, but should Inter lose their unbeaten record, what at present looks like a sizeable lead could quickly shrink, and Roma’s coach, Luciano Spalletti, must be urging his players to maintain this positive outlook. Inter have recently shown signs of vulnerability, which will encourage the Giallorossi, and all they must do is to keep winning, and hope their rivals slip up.

The only home defeat Roma have suffered was at the hands of Inter, so with captain, Francesco Totti, firing on all cylinders, they should at least be fancied to overcome Palermo this weekend. The Sicilians have lost three on the bounce, and are without a win in five games, so this isn’t a great time for them to be visiting the Stadio Olimpico. Roma have won the last three meetings by an 8-1 aggregate score-line and PinnacleSports.com make them favourites. Roma 2.05 (-1 & -1.5)* with Palermo 1.877 (+1 & +1.5)*.

La Liga Betting Previews for Games Playing January 26 – 27

The end of the January transfer window is rapidly approaching, and though there is still enough time for deals to be done, Real Madrid have conceded that they cannot tempt Cesc Fabregas or Cristiano Ronaldo to Spain. Likewise it appears that Ronaldinho will be staying put with Barcelona, and that the Catalans won’t be making any significant additions to their squad. Keep one eye on the transfer tickers until the window shuts, but fully focus on getting up to 60% better La Liga betting odds at PinnacleSports.com.

First Plays Third in La Liga Table-Top Clash

Saturday’s game at the Bernabeu between La Liga leaders, Real Madrid, and third-placed Villarreal looks like a mouth-watering tie. However, though only two places separate the sides, Los Blancos have a massive twelve point lead over the Yellow Submarine, thanks in part to a 100% home record. The visitors are black and white on the road, winning five and losing four, with no draws. The more worrying statistic for coach, Manuel Pellegrini, is that his side of conceded just two goals less on the road than rock-bottom, Levante, losing their last away game 3-0 to Espanyol.

Real Madrid recently suffered a shock exit from the Copa Del Rey, but means they will be fresher than Villarreal who remain in the tournament. They faced Barcelona in a quarter-final first leg at home on Thursday night, three days before this key game. Both teams were boosted by key wins last weekend, Villarreal thrashing Valencia 3-0, while Real won the Madrid Derby. The bad news for the Galacticos is that Brazilian full back, Pepe, was lost to injury, joining defenders Gabriel Heinze and Christoph Metzelder on the sidelines. Los Merengues hammered Villarreal 5-0 earlier in the season, but the last two meetings at the Bernabeu ended drawn. PinnacleSports.com make Real Madrid favourites 2.190 (-1 & -1.5)* with Villarreal 1.775 (+1 & +1.5)* – a market priced to less than 102%.

Multinational Catalans Face All Basque Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao are unique in Spanish football in operating a policy to select players drawn only from the team’s Basque heartland. The side have suffered in recent years under this Cantera policy, being embroiled in relegation battles in recent seasons. This year looks like being a similar story with the Lions hovering above the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference only. On Sunday they host Barcelona at San Mames, who in contrast feature nine different nationalities.

Two of Barca’s key imports – Samuel Eto’o and Yaya Toure – are absent, playing in the African Nations Cup, while Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi have recently recovered from injury. The Catalans may be unbeaten in six games, but they have lacked fluency and confidence, and have the additional burden of having played three days earlier against Villarreal in a Cope Del Rey quarter-final. PinnacleSports.com make Barcelona favourites 1.813 (-0.5 & -1)* with Athletic Bilbao 2.130 (+0.5 & +1)*.

FA Cup Moneyback Specials Paddy Power, BoyleSports, BetFred, VCBet and more

The fourth round of this year’s FA Cup kicks-off at Field Mill, when League One side Mansfield Town welcome their more illustrious opponents, Middlesbrough, on Saturday lunchtime. Mansfield survived a scare in round two before just scraping by Harrogate Railway Athletic and will look on this as a “no lose situation” against the Premier League strugglers.

Here are the latest specials and money back offers from some of the UK’s top online sportsbooks:

Click to visit BoyleSports.com“Stag Party”
Mansfield v Middlesbrough – FA Cup – Saturday 12.30pm
If Mansfield score in both halves of this game, Boylesports will refund all losing single bets on this match. Applies to singles only – maximum refund of  €300 (or Currency Equiv) per customer. Does not apply to singles in multiple bets or in-play live betting.  90 minutes only.

Saturday evening televised match is an all Premier League tie when Chelsea face Wigan at the JJB stadium. Chelsea players may find it strange to be playing FA Cup tie away from Stamford Bridge as this is the first time since 2005/06 season that the Blues have been drawn away from home. Steve Bruce’s side will welcome a weekend away from the distraction of the relegation fight for a change.

Wigan v Chelsea – FA Cup – Saturday 5.15pm
If Chelsea are leading at half time but fail to win the game, Boylesports will refund all losing single bets on this match. Applies to singles only – maximum refund of  €300 (or Currency Equiv) per customer. Does not apply to singles in multiple bets or in-play live betting.  90 minutes only.

Not to miss an opportunity, the other hugely popular Irish bookie PaddyPower has this offer on the cards for this FA Cup tie:

Wigan V Chelsea – FA Cup 4th round  – Saturday 5:15pm Live on BBC1
If Michael Ballack scores the last goal of the game, Paddy Power will refund all losing 1st/Last Goalscorer, Correct Score and scorecast singles  on that match. Max Refund €300/£200 per customer. Applies to 90 min betting only. Own goals do not count.

Victor Chandler has taken a more generic approach with their FA Cup Cash Backs (presumably to save space on their fairly clunky web site?) Here’s their all in one offer :

Click to visit Victor Chandler Bookmaker VCBet.com“FA Cup Special Offer”
Mansfield Town v Middlesbrough , Wigan v Chelsea, Man Utd v Spurs, Sheff Utd v Man City
If TUNCAY, ANELKA, RONALDO or ELANO score the last goal in any of the above matches Victor Chandler will refund all losing First Goalscorer & Correct Score bets on that match as a free bet. Max refund £100 (€150) per person per match.

Fred Done of BetFred has taken a more conservative approach this week linking the refund on the outcome of two FA Cup games:

Click to go to BetFred Bookmaker“Won on the Wing”
FA Cup –  Man Utd v Tottenham AND Sheffield Utd v Man City
If Ronaldo scores and Man Utd win AND Petrov scores and Man City win, BetFred will refund all losing correct score, first/last goalscorer or scorecast win single bets on this match as a free bet.  Offer only counts if both players score and both teams win.  – Own goals don’t count – Max refund £100 (or currency equivalent) per customer

Sunday lunchtime sees potentially the tie of the round when Man United welcome League Cup finalists, Tottenham, to Old Trafford. The Red Devil stars should be fresh from their midweek excursion to Dubai as they look for their 12th FA Cup title. Spurs, on the other hand, will look to build on their fantastic result against rivals Arsenal on Tuesday night.

Click to visit BoyleSports.com“Spur Of The Moment”
Man United v Tottenham – FA Cup – Sunday 2.00pm.
If Dimitar Berbatov scores the last goal of the game, Boylesports will refund all losing single bets on this match. Applies to singles only – maximum refund of  €300 (or Currency Equiv) per customer. Does not apply to singles in multiple bets or in-play live betting.  90 minutes only.

Paddy Power’s offer on this match depends on a goal fest. Fancy it?

Click to go to Paddy Power bookmaker“Fifth Amendment”
Man Utd v Tottenham – Sunday 2:00pm Live on BBC1.
If there are five or more goals in this game, Paddy Power will refund all losing 1st/Last Goalscorer, Correct Score and scorecast singles on that match. Max Refund €300/£200 per customer. Applies to 90 min betting only. Own goals do not count.

The final tie of the weekend involves Sheffield United and Man City at Bramall Lane. Sven Goran Eriksson’s side needed two attempts to get passed West Ham in round three and will be hoping for an easier time against the Championship side still smarting from their Steel City Derby defeat.

Click to visit BoyleSports.com“A Tonge Lashing”
Sheff Utd v Man City – FA Cup – Sunday 4.00pm
If Michael Tonge scores either the first or last goal of the game, Boylesports will refund all losing single bets on this match. Applies to singles only – maximum refund of  €300 (or Currency Equiv) per customer. Does not apply to singles in multiple bets or in-play live betting.  90 minutes only.

Aspiring Premiership Managers Come Face-to-Face at Villa Park

The FA Cup is the main focus of English soccer betting action this weekend, but as Aston Villa and Blackburn are already eliminated, they face each other in the solitary Premiership fixture on Saturday. Less however is more if you take advantage of up to 60% better Premiership betting odds at PinnacleSports.com.

Premiership’s Aspiring Managers Come Face-to-Face at Villa Park

Two of the Premiership’s upcoming British managers meet at Villa Park on Saturday, in the weekend’s only Premiership fixture. Martin O’Neill has performed a near revolution at Aston Villa with the side challenging for European football, and boasting some of the best young talent in the division in the shape of Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor. The pair have been integral to the team’s success, which was two minute’s away from a famous victory at Anfield on Monday night. The game ended 2-2, only the second time this season Liverpool have conceded two goals at home.

Blackburn’s Mark Hughes is seen as a likely successor to Alex Ferguson and was strongly linked with the Newcastle post. Sparky has managed Rovers since 2004, and with a combination of astute transfers and excellent motivational skills has led them to consecutive European campaigns. Hughes will have been disappointed by the recent 4-1 FA Cup home defeat by Coventry City (of the Championship) and also by the 4-0 defeat that Villa inflicted on them at Ewood Park last November. However, they have won their last two away league fixtures and victory at Villa Park could put them on level points with the Claret and Blues, which would be crucial to their continuing European aspirations.

Click to compare live bookmaker oddsPinnacleSports.com make Aston Villa marginal favourites 2.050 (-0.5)* with Blackburn 1.877 (+0.5)*.

Who says women know nothing about football?

“Who says women know nothing about football?”, asks our favourite, if somewhat controversy-seeking Irish bookmaker, Paddy Power.57,000 GBP acca win

A punter from Kettering, Northamptonshire has won nearly £60,000 betting on the weekend’s football scores – thanks to his wife.

The Paddy Power customer had four of his original selections changed by his other half before he placed his bet, which correctly predicted the result of every Premier League game.

The lucky punter correctly predicted the result of every Premier League match over the weekend on a £10 stake, returning just short of £19,000. And with a six, seven eight and nine bet selection from the ten games also coming through they eventually walked away with over £57,000 for their troubles.

After picking up his winnings, the punter, who did not want to be named, said: “As a life-long Villa fan I had them down for a win at Anfield but my wife convinced me to go for a draw.

“With the Liverpool game poised at 1-1 we couldn’t bare to watch anymore so for the Villa to get the last result we needed, with one of our ex-players Peter Crouch cropping up to score the crucial goal, really is the icing on the cake.
