Arsenal Dreaming of Historic Double

Arsene Wenger Following Arsenal’s inspirational win at the San Siro on Tuesday night, which takes the Gunners into the last eight of the Champions League, a historic league and European double remains a possibility.

To make that a reality Arsenal must improve their recent Premiership form which has seen them draw away at Birmingham, then only salvage a point at home to Aston Villa with the final kick of the game. The win away to AC Milan, should however provide just the boost Arsene Wenger’s side needs, ahead of Sunday’s visit to the JJB Stadium.

Steve Bruce seems to be steering Wigan to safety, keeping clean sheets in three of their last four games, winning their previous two home fixtures. The problem facing the Latics is their abysmal record against the ‘Big Four’, losing every encounter, which includes all five Premiership games against Arsenal. The Gunners also have Kolo Toure, Robin Van Persie and Thomas Rosicky back, putting them at almost first strength.

PinnacleSports.com make Arsenal favourites 1.787 (-0.5 & -1)* with Wigan 2.170 (+0.5 & +1)*.

Premiership Betting: King Kev Returns to Anfield Still Searching for First Win

Kevin KeeganKevin Keegan will have mixed feeling returning to Anfield still seeking his first win, seven games into his second stint as Newcastle manager. Keegan enjoyed six glorious seasons as a player with Liverpool, but the ground holds sad memories too. As manager in 1996 the 4-3 defeat of his Geordie side is always remembered as pivotal point in the title race, in which the Magpies surrendered a 12 point lead.

Far from challenging at the top of the league, the current Newcastle incarnation are just three points above relegation, and fresh from a hat-trick of demoralising defeats. They will expect no favours from a Liverpool side desperate to deprive their city rivals – Everton – of the crucial fourth spot, which conveys Champions League qualification. Fernando Torres recorded a second conseuctive hat-trick as the Pool thrashed West Ham 4-0 on Wednesday, but Rafa Benitez is likely to rotate with one eye on Tuesday night’s trip to the San Siro.

PinnacleSports.com price Liverpool favourites 1.704 (-1) with Newcastle 2.320 (+1) – a market priced to less than 102%*.

FA Cup: Eight Hopefuls Just Two Games From Wembley

Here’s the latest FA Cup Betting commentary from top Handicap Sportsbook PinnacleSports.com.

Man Utd & Chelsea Edge Closer to Repeat Final (Mar 8-9)

FA Cup 2008This weekend punters who favour English football have the choice of Premier League and FA Cup action, with top quality action in both competitions. The FA Cup – the world’s oldest cup competition – has reached the quarter-final stage, which includes last year’s finalists, Man Utd and Chelsea, but among the six other hopefuls are teams from the two tiers below the Premier League looking to create an upset.

Eight Hopefuls Just Two Games From Wembley

The FA Cup reaches the quarter-final stage this weekend which means the eight remaining teams are just two games from the gleaming arch of Wembley. With the way the draw has panned out it we could easily see a repeat of last year’s final where Chelsea beat Manchester United in extra time. Having cruised past Arsenal with a 4-0 demolition at Old Trafford in the previous round, the Red Devils are favourites with PinnacleSports.com to overcome Portsmouth with home advantage.

Manchester United are 2.040 (-1.5)* with Portsmouth 1.893 (+1.5)* – a market priced to less than 102%.

Chelsea face a trip to Oakwell taking on Championship side, Barnsley, who pulled off the biggest giant-killing for some years by beating Liverpool at Anfield in the last sixteen. Having performed such heroics in the previous round, the Tykes will fear no-one with home advantage, especially if goalkeeper Lee Steele is in the same unbeatable form. Chelsea will be looking to avenge the recent League Cup final defeat inflicted at the hands of Spurs, by successfully defending the FA Cup trophy.

PinnacleSports.com make Chelsea favourites 1.781 (-1 & -1.5)* with Barnsley 2.180 (+1 & +1.5)*.

On Sunday Middlesbrough have a great opportunity to make the semi-finals, facing Championship side Cardiff at home. Boro last silverware was the League Cup in 2004, while they last made the FA Cup final in 1997. Bristol Rovers fly the flag for Division One looking to defeat West Brom at home, having reached the last eight for the first time since 1958.
