Goals Scarce in England’s Top Flight
November 29th, 2006
England’s top division has suffered a severe goal shortage this season, with 12 0-0 draws and 34 1-0 wins already.
This is in stark contrast to some leagues around Europe, where goals are being scored at a far faster pace.
In Holland, for instance, fans have been treated to an average of 3.16 goals per game, which works out as more than one extra goal per game compared to the English top-flight.
League | Goals/game | 0-0 Draws | 0-0 % |
Eredivisie | 3.16 | 6 | 5% |
Bundesliga | 2.75 | 8 | 6% |
SPL | 2.57 | 7 | 7% |
Serie A | 2.52 | 14 | 11% |
Primera Liga | 2.46 | 13 | 11% |
SuperLiga (Portugal) | 2.43 | 4 | 5% |
Ligue One | 2.35 | 14 | 9% |
Premiership | 2.14 | 12 | 9% |
In Germany there is some talk this season of teams playing more defensively yet the league still averages almost 2.8 goals per game, while even supposedly defensive Serie A manages more than 2.5 goals per game.
Perhaps a close look at the UNDER 2.5 GOALS bet is in order.
