MLB Odds at Bovada : Red Sox and Yankees in 3 game series this week

There’s no greater rivalry in baseball than the New York Yankees versus the Boston Red Sox. They’ll play a three-game set at Yankee Stadium this week; the finale is Thursday at 7 PM ET on ESPN, with Michael Pineda (4.38 FIP) pitching for New York and David Price making his third start of the year for Boston.

Price (3.60 FIP last year) suffered an elbow injury in spring training and wasn’t activated until May 29, when he gave up three runs to the Chicago White Sox (+143 at home) in five innings of a 5-4 loss. But Price looked like his old self on Saturday, holding the Baltimore Orioles (+103 at home) to one run on three hits over seven innings as the Red Sox prevailed 5-2.

Pineda has led the Yankees to an 8-3 record in his 11 starts, picking up 4.52 betting units in the process. However, the towering northpaw has also enjoyed 6.82 runs of support per game and a friendly .276 BABIP. The over is 7-4 for Pineda thus far.

Meanwhile, CF Jacoby Ellsbury (.771 OPS) has been shut down indefinitely for the Yankees with recurring concussion symptoms. He’s expected to see a neurologist this week.

Champions League Final – Too close to Call ?

Arguably,  the two best club football teams in the world will meet this Saturday in the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final, at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

The defending champions Real Madrid will face Juventus in a rematch of the 1998 final with Real are slim favorites in this matchup, priced at +150 (2.50) on the moneyline with Juventus at +175 (2.75)  and the draw in regulation very much in play at +205 (3.05).

Bet on soccer at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Real Madrid have won the Champions League 11 times including recently in 2014 and 2016, and they come into Saturday’s final as Spanish La Liga champions, led by the incomparable four-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristian Ronaldo.

But Juventus are a good match, featuring legendary Gianluigi Buffon in goal, having won Italy’s Serie A for the sixth straight year. Juve have allowed just one goal in their last seven matches combined.

Scoring could be even more difficult for Real Madrid if reports on Gareth Bale’s health are accurate. Bale suffered a right ankle tendon injury in November and had to leave last month’s Clasico against Barcelona after tweaking his calf. The Welsh national is still expected to play in front of what should be a pro-Real crowd in Cardiff.

NBA Finals Odds: Golden State Warriors Big Favorites to Beat Cleveland

This is the moment the Golden State Warriors have been waiting for all season.

After blowing that 3-1 lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers in last year’s NBA Finals, the Warriors are back, and they’re better than ever; Golden State has opened as a 7-point home favorite for Thursday’s opener (9 PM ET, ABC), and the Dubs are –240 on the NBA championship futures market.

Last year’s Warriors may have won 73 games, but they didn’t win the only game that counts: the last one. So they added Kevin Durant in free agency, giving them yet another league MVP to join Stephen Curry in the starting lineup. Durant is +220 and Curry is +230 to be named Finals MVP at the end of this series.

LeBron James is also +220 to win MVP, which would be his fourth award. Even though the Cavs are +200 underdogs to defend their title, James is easily the best player on his team – Kyrie Irving is his closest MVP competition at +1000. James has played at an exceptionally high level in these playoffs, too, putting up 32-8-7 per game while hitting 42.1% of his 3-pointers.

But will James be enough firepower to stop the Warriors – we don’t think so.

NHL Odds: Nashville’s Historic Playoff Run Continues

After sealing the Anaheim Ducks’ fate on Monday night with a 6-3 victory, the Nashville Predators made team history by qualifying for the franchise’s first Stanley Cup Final, which is set to begin May 29.

The recipe for success in the playoffs has been two-fold for the Predators: a balanced offensive attack and all-world goaltending. The Predators have seven players on their roster with double-digit points, which leads all NHL clubs.

Their top line of Ryan Johansen, Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson has been an offensive powerhouse (38 points collectively), while their top four defensemen have contributed an astounding 39 points as a group.

To understand the other half of Nashville’s success, look no further than their goaltender, Pekka Rinne. The Fin leads all playoff goaltenders in goals against average (1.70), save percentage (.941), wins (12), and is tied for the lead in shutouts (2).

There is no question that Rinne has been the league’s most valuable player thus far in the 2016-17 playoffs, and if he continues that pace, fans can expect not only a Stanley Cup, but also a Conn Smythe Trophy to be paraded down the streets of Nashville.

NBA Odds: Oklahoma City Thunder Host San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of Western Semifinals

The Oklahoma City Thunder turned things around quickly to even their Western Conference semifinal with the San Antonio Spurs at 1-1 Monday night, which means Oklahoma City now have home-court advantage for the rest of the series – starting with Game 3 Friday night at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. Tip-off is at 9:30 PM ET on ESPN.

Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

After getting blown out in Game 1 as losing 92-124, the Thunder took advantage of some uncharacteristically poor shooting by San Antonio in Game 2. Then OKC withstood a late run by the Spurs to win 98-97 as 8.5-point road dogs on the closing line, up from +7.5 at the open. Despite the victory, Oklahoma City remains a +230 underdog to win this series and advance to the Western Final.

Both teams have their full rosters active for Game 3. Up to this point, the star of the show has been LaMarcus Aldridge, who scored 79 points for San Antonio over the first two games, and even sank both his 3-point attempts – the only two he’s made all year after shooting 0-for-16 during the regular season.

Kevin Durant (44 points)  and Russell Westbrook (43 points) have combined to shoot 2-of-13 from long range for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Bye-bye Bayern Munich – Atletico Madrid reach Champions League Final

Bayern Munich pummelled Atletico Madrid in the return leg of their Champions League semi-final but conceded an away goal and were eliminated on away goals despite winning the match 2-1.

Xabi Alonso opened the scoring in the 31st minute via a deflected free-kick to give Bayern Munich a 1-0 lead on the night and level the aggregate scores a 1-1, and the German side poured on the pressure with  73% of possession and 33 shots to 7 over the course of the match.

Atletico Madrid “parked the bus” in front of goal for much of the match, but were always quick to counter-attack and a 53rd minute goal from Antoine Griezmann did the damage, as it meant that Bayern Munich needed to win by two clear goals in order to progress.

Robert Lewandoski scored from a header in the 74th minute to give the Germans a 2-1 lead on the night, but they still needed another goal to progress and they just could not find another way past Attletico keeper Jan Oblak.

Atletico Madrid will meet Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final in Milan on 28 May.

Leicester City win English Premier League

Leicester City started the season as 5000-1 outsiders and have ended the season as league champions with two games to spare.

It was the first time since Nottingham Forest in 1978 that a team in England won the top division for the first time, and with money increasingly dominating the top of the game it seemed unlikely that ANY club would do it for the foreseeable future.

Hindsight shows that the bookmakers were probably a little bit lax to start The Foxes at 5000-1 after the arrival of a new big spending owner who splashed out 83m on 23 new players, and ignoring their end to last season when they won 7 of the last nine fixtures – but no-one expected the unsung Leicester City side to last at the top of the table all season.

Should we have been surprised though?

Looking at the other big leagues in Europe, they had all had “first-time” winners over the last 25 years- two of them in the last decade.

– Italy celebrated Sampdoria winning in 1991
– Spain had Deportivo La Coruna in 2000
– Germany saw Wolfsburg win in 2009
– France witnessed Montpellier succeed in 2012

So yes it was a long shot, but perhaps not quite as long as those 5000-1 odds the bookmakers offered, and I suspect that we will see a little more thought put into those league winning odds at the start of the 2016-17 season in August!

MLB : New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox on Friday

MLB Odds: Yankees, Red Sox Resume Ancient RivalryML Baseball picks

It’s one of the most ancient and enduring rivalries in US sports – the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.

These two ballclubs have faced each other 2,137 times over the past 115 years, with the Yankees holding a 1,161-962 advantage heading into their latest series at Fenway Park. Game 1 of this three-game set takes place Friday night at 7:10 PM ET on the MLB Network.

Bet on baseball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

This will be the first meeting of the 2016 regular season between the Yankees (8-12, –5.90 betting units) and the Red Sox (12-9, +1.84 units).

Masahiro Tanaka (3.14 FIP) is scheduled to take the mound for New York, while he might never be the same pitcher he was before he tore his elbow during his 2014 “rookie” campaign, but he’s played at a high level this year, leading the Yankees to three wins in four starts for a profit of 2.05 units.

Boston is expected to respond with Henry Owens, one of the top prospects in the system. Owens has been pressed into service because of injuries to the Red Sox rotation; in his 2016 debut, the 6-foot-6 southpaw gave up three runs over 3.1 innings in a 7-5 win over the Houston Astros (–105 at home).

NBA Betting : Resilient Raptors Take 3-2 Lead Into Indiana on Friday 4/29

Image result for velociraptor imageThe Toronto Raptors were down by double-digits through most of Game 5, but they dominated the fourth quarter to win Game 5 by 102-99 on Tuesday night over the Indiana Pacers.

From a betting standpoint, the Indiana Pacers still managed to cash in as 7-point road dogs, but they’ll be behind the 8-ball Friday night when they host Toronto in Game 6 on Friday night in Indianapolis.

Bet on basketball at Bovada Sportsbook and get a free 50% bonus.

This Eastern Conference quarterfinal has seen each team make multiple adjustments to gain an advantage over the other. On Tuesday, the Raptors benched Luis Scola and started Patrick Patterson at power forward; it wasn’t effective, as Patterson posted a minus-20 after struggling at both ends. However, Indiana committed 14 turnovers to Toronto’s seven, handing the game and the series back to the Raptors.

Game 5 also saw the two teams go over the closing total of 194 points, up from 192 at the open. Unders had previously dominated 4-0 in this series, and 24-10 in the playoffs overall going into Tuesday’s action. Paul George helped change that with 39 points for Indiana, while Toronto’s DeMar Derozan finally broke out of his shooting slump, scoring 34 points on 10-of-22 from the floor and 12-of-13 from the free-throw line.
