Real Madrid offered Man Utd’s Ronaldo for nowt!
Manchester United star Ronaldo is a summer target for Real, but he so easily could have been snapped up for next-to-nothing by the Spanish giants in 2003. Martins revealed: “I was in Madrid in 2003 to complete my coaching badges. Back then, the coaches at Real Madrid already knew about Cristiano and asked me about signing him from Sporting Lisbon.

“I recommended it. (But) I do not know why they didn’t follow through and sign him.” Luis Martins also revealed Ronaldo has a burning desire to play in Spain. He told Marca: “We keep in contact by means of e-mails, although I have not spoken with him in person since he was preparing for the World Cup in Germany last summer.  “Cristiano has always told me the same thing: that he wants to succeed in Spain, which he considers the best League in the world. And he is not going to stop until he achieves it.”

Middlesbrough linked with Reggina’s Bianchi
Reggina ace Rolando Bianchi, wanted by AC Milan and Spartak Moscow, is being linked with Boro for the summer market. The 24 year-old is enjoying the best season of his career and is inside the final two years of his Reggina deal.

Andrade rep: Chelsea want him
Pedro Duque told AS: “The cycle of Andrade at Deportivo is now finished. This is the opinion of all the parties concerned. In fact, the club has told us such both in a direct and indirect way.

“It’s true Chelsea wants him and I know that Inter also like him. When he was injured a big club came in for him and now that he is fit even more clubs are calling. The priority for Jorge is to stay in Spain because he knows the Liga and it is the best.”

Inter Milan ponder £6M bid for Arsenal’s Eboue
Inter directors Marco Branca and Lele Oriali have been won over by Eboue’s success at the Gunners after first being alerted to the 23 year-old’s potential almost five years ago while with Beveren.

Hapoel Tel Aviv wants Rangers captain Baz banned
After last night’s 2-1 win in Israel it emerged the hosts intend to lodge a formal protest alleging that Ferguson struck Hapoel substitute Tal Chen in the face with an elbow five minutes from the end.

“We are not happy with the incident,” said Levin, “and we will be making a protest to UEFA to ask them to look at the television evidence which shows Ferguson elbowing our player.”  Harry Been, the vastly-experienced Dutch FA official, was the UEFA delegate at last night’s match, and Rangers now face an anxious wait to see if Ferguson will face any recriminations from the European governing body.
