Sharp Football Betting Action from Pinnacle Sports

In our (nearly) regualr feature – we get the inside scoop from PinnacleSports as to what are their “sharp” players betting now?

Philadelphia -3.5 -106 v New Orleans
In the highest-traded game of the week, the Eagles opened as 2.5-point road favorites where several early bets from sharps quickly moved the line. The professionals clearly like the Eagles at -2.5 and even -3, but are passing on Philly -3.5.

New Orleans has been a fairly public team this year, so we expect Saints backers to take the +3.5, which could force this game to close on the 3.

Chicago/Arizona Over 38 -107
The opening total of 37 was heavily bet by the public forcing the line up to 38. The sharps have not expressed an opinion on this game yet, which may indicate that they’re waiting for Monday night to play the under.

While the Bears’ have averaged over 31 points per game this season, it remains to be seen if the Cardinals can score against the dominant Chicago defense.

Florida +1 -105 v Auburn
Auburn was embarrassed last week losing to Arkansas 27-10 at home. Public bettors often back top-ranked teams following this type of loss using a “bounce back” theory.

This game is clearly following that trend as a lot of public money has already come in on the Tigers. The sharps clearly favor Florida, and their larger wagers have pushed the opener of Florida +1.5 down.

Wales and Ireland managers for “The Axe” ??

Wales lost 5-1 at home to Slovakia and Cyprus hammered the Republic of Ireland 5-2 to put the future Wales and Republic of Ireland counterparts John Toshack and Steve Staunton in doubt.

Both sides remain pointless in Group D and it’s an odds-on chance will all the bookmakers that Toshack fails to see out the qualifying campaign.

And after Ireland’s humiliating defeat away to Cyprus, Irish fans have begun to call for Staunton’s head. Once again the bookmakers are confident that the axe will fall with William Hill just 4/9 that Staunton will be gone before the end of the Euro 2008 qualifiers, while he’s 13/8 to keep his job until then.

William Hill’s Irish spokesman Tony Kenny said “Straight after the final whistle we were inundated with requests for Steve Staunton to leave before the end of the qualifiers. We originally offered odds of 4/6 that he’d leave, but after taking several hefty wagers, we were forced to slash that price from 4/6 to 4/9.”

England still expected to win Euro2008 Group

Despite failing to beat little Macedonia, the bookmakers are not changing their expectations of England’s chances of making it to the Euro2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland.

England, 1/20 chances at the start of the game, were held to a 0-0 draw with Macedonia, a scoreline available at 20/1 with Paddy Power prior to kick-off at Old Trafford.

Steven Gerrard hit the bar for the hosts late on, but the Euro 2008 favourites looked devoid of ideas throughout and deserved only a point from the match.

Wayne Rooney looked lacklustre again before he was substituted late on and the Manchester United striker is 5/1 with bet365 to be dropped for Wednesday’s game away to Croatia – and 4/11 with Hills to fail to score if he does play.

England still remain market leaders for the 2008 finals though, at no better than the 13/2 chalked up by EuroBet, and are 1/2 with the Barking-based firm to win their group and 6/5 to beat Croatia.

Scots to Qualify For Euro2008 ?

Scotland have come into 3/1 (4.00) to qualify for Euro 2008 following their shock 1-0 win over France on Saturday.

The Scots, who were 5/1 to beat the World Cup finalists pre-match and 12/1 to win 1-0, maintained their 100% record thanks to Gary Caldwell’s 67th minute winner. They head Group B with nine points after three matches, three points ahead of France and five in front of World Cup winners Italy.

bet365 had initially offered the Scots at 9/2 to qualify following their Hampden Park heroics but were soon forced to chop that price into 3/1.

As far as the group betting is concerned, France remain odds-on across the board to win the section, with EuroBet offering a top-priced 10/11.

UK to become World Leader in online gambling

PLANS to turn Britain into a “world leader” in internet gambling have been drawn up by ministers, according to internal Whitehall documents.

In stark contrast to America, where online gambling has in effect been outlawed, ministers want to attract offshore companies to Britain.

New legislation will lift the current ban on online gaming businesses in Britain from next year and the government may introduce a favourable tax regime.

At the end of the month, Tessa Jowell, the culture secretary, will host an international summit of politicians at Ascot racecourse to discuss regulatory standards. Officials from the United Nations, the European Commission and the major credit card companies have been invited.

The government’s desire to take the lead in the online gambling sector is spelt out in a briefing note written for Caborn before a meeting in July last year with Mark Davies, managing director of Betfair, the online betting exchange.

The note says: “It is government-wide policy, and that includes HMT (Her Majesty’s Treasury), that Britain should become a world leader in the field of online gambling, in order to provide our citizens with the opportunity to gambling (sic) in a safe, well-regulated environment.”

Luring online poker and casino firms into Britain may prove difficult. The industry has told Caborn that anything more than a 2% tax on gross profits would be unacceptable.

Some companies have asked the government to consider a system of “secondary” licensing, which would give them the British regulatory “stamp of approval” while retaining the tax benefits of remaining offshore.

Pinnacle SportsBook Insider News

So what are players betting in the early action at Pinnacle Sportsbook this week?

LSU -1 -101 v Florida
Florida was originally a 2.5 point favorite, but public money has kept coming in on LSU at Pinnacle Sportsbetting. While there have been twice as many bets on LSU as Florida, there has not been a clear consensus from our sharps at the time of writing.

Tennessee -2 -109 v Georgia
The oddsmakers at PinnacleSports.com opened the Vols’ as a 2.5 point favorite. The Bulldogs have struggled two weeks in a row to mediocre teams, which was enough to get the public to fade them heavily. We have three times as many bettors on Tennessee as Georgia.

Despite the public money, the line has drifted down to -2 as our sharps are collectively on the Bulldogs

Kansas City -3 -125 v. Arizona
The opener of Chiefs -2.5 (-110) drew a downpour of money at a rate of three bets on K.C. for every one on Arizona. Some sharper players also took an early position on the Chiefs, and sold it off by playing Arizona +3.5 (with point buying).

A lot of players are buying half-points on this game, which will make this an ugly game if we’re middled on the “3”.

Pittsburgh +3.5 -115 v San Diego
This game is one of the most heavily traded games of the week at Pinnacle Sports. The action has been balanced and the sharps have not picked a side on this match-up yet. There is a “resistance point” at San Diego -3.5 (+109).

While the price is currently -3.5 (+107), it occasionally creeps up when we take a few large Pittsburgh bets. Every time the line hits Chargers -3.5 (+109), we take a limit bet on them.

There are two common causes of this: either scalpers are playing our numbers versus other sportsbooks, or some players are slowly building up a larger position on the Chargers.

Punters win £1.5m as injury-hit Forfar lose 8-0

Gamblers around the world landed collective winnings estimated at £1.5m on Saturday after the biggest football betting coup in years, involving around £3m wagered on a minor Scottish match.

Forfar, with an acute injury crisis that left them with only eight match-fit players, two of them goalkeepers, had asked for the game to be postponed. The Scottish FA declined that request on Friday. Canny punters backed Peterhead, with single bets reaching five figures, including one £10,000 wager placed in Canada on the internet.

Peterhead were backed heavily both with high street bookies and on betting exchanges. On the Betfair exchange alone, £405,000 was traded on the game, with £398,000 of that on Peterhead.

Ladbrokes, who took £5,000 on Peterhead and not a penny on Forfar by Friday afternoon, actually had to reprint their weekend coupon to accommodate a shortening of the odds. Peterhead, who were even money at the outset, were 1-2 at kick-off.

The result showed money really does talk. Peterhead won 8-0 and, to compound Forfar’s misery, they had two players sent off.

Well done punters !!

Thumbs Up
